entrapment devastate families. A common place and source of joy for Florida families, a drain
entrapment injury results in catastrophic injury suffered by those few who survive them are
unspeakable in magnitude.

These are very significant

There are both federal and
Florida laws and regulations which govern most spa injury, including spa drain entrapment. There
are also several industry standards which may be applied to prove the fault of responsible
parties.
Pool Drain, Spa Drain Standards and
Regulations
Each swimming pool or spa drain
cover manufactured, distributed, or sold n the United States must have a drain safety cover under
federal law. Additionally, every public pool and spa (pump) with a single main drain, other than an
unblockable drain, must now be equipped with one or more additional devices or systems designed to
prevent suction entrapment that meet the industry requirements.
Pools and spas must also, in
addition to a having a compliant drain cover, those additional devices or systems to immediately
stop vacuum suction of the drain in the event of entrapment, including a safety vacuum release
system (SVRS), or suction limiting vent system, or gravity drainage system, or automatic pump
shutoff system, or drain disablement, or other system determined by the Consumer Product Safety
Commission to be equally effective in preventing suction entrapment.
There are additional federal and
Florida safety requirements for pools and spas, including barriers to entry that will effectively
prevent small children from gaining unsupervised and unfettered access; and Suction Entrapment
Avoidance systems.
